An aspiring strong man of God in the image of Jesus Christ!

This Ministry is pleased to present this page to honor the outstanding multi-faceted ten year service of Philip Lovings to the Lord as a volunteer musician and member of its Board of Directors. Brother Lovings came to the attention of Ministry President, Rev. Robert Kelley, in 2009 as part of a group of men from the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Portland, OR brought together by the church’s then Minister of Music, Keith Hunter, and guitarist, Marvin Spires that called themselves the Men’s Praise Team. Phil played trumpet and spent the next 10 years traveling with the team and Strong Man Ministries to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ into every men’s prison in Oregon and Washington. Hundreds of men made decisions for Christ!

In 2010, after prayer and the endorsement of his pastor, brother Lovings joined the Board of Directors of this Ministry at the invitation of Rev. Kelley and faithfully served with distinction. His spiritual gifts of helps and service were apparent. He helped lead and supported the Ministry through a number of difficult challenges and tough decisions. He also helped update the Ministry’s Doctrinal Statement and enlisted others to support the work. He brought Director Alvin Johnson to the Board. His critical thinking skills were invaluable to the Ministry as was his willingness to lead out in the manual labor of moving into and out of office spaces; recruiting men from his church to assist.

Phil never missed a board meeting or Strong Man Of God Rally until this past fall when he was diagnosed with brain cancer. While he fought valiantly, he surrendered the outcome to the Lord’s will for him. The Lord took him home this past Resurrection Sunday, April 12, 2020. Phil’s friendliness, readiness to help, can do spirit and infectious smile evident in the photos on this page will be greatly missed. Please pray for his widow, Rosie, and the entire family.
