A man who lives to please God and do His will
Every man on the face of the earth can potentially answer God’s call to be a strong man of God. A strong man of God is the man king David charges his son, Solomon to be as he prepares to ascend his throne. He tells him in 1 Kings 2:2b-3, “...be strong, therefore, and prove yourself a man. And keep the charge of the Lord your God: to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses...,” (NKJV). The result: God’s favor! In a phrase, what is required to be a strong man of God is a "heart for God!"
King Solomon started out well. But he soon began to disobey and compromise God’s Word. So, as the model strong man he comes up short. He failed where we all do, sin! The Bible teaches all that are of the fallen first Adam’s seed, have a sinful nature and are hopelessly driven by that nature to rebel against God (Romans 5:12-17). Thus, neither Solomon, you or I in our own strength really can perfectly obey God’s Word.
